Region

The Canberra region and its surrounding areas have a rich history in winemaking, dating back to the 1840s when the first vines were planted. However, like many other small Australian wine regions, the industry faced a decline in the early 20th century. It was not until the 1970s that the cool-climate wineries experienced a renaissance, thanks to the efforts of CSIRO scientists who conducted extensive research on vineyard locations, grape selection, and traditional winemaking methods. Their dedication resulted in the production of low-volume vintages that truly captured the essence of each variety, growing season, and the wine’s unique character.
